November 14, 2023The IT job landscape in Ukraine is facing notable challenges, with a quarter of specialists being laid off in the past year. According to a Dou.ua survey, this situation has led to an increase in IT professionals losing their jobs, resulting in longer job searches.

The survey reveals that within the last 12 months, 25% of Ukrainian IT specialists lost their jobs, with 54% of respondents taking two months or more to secure a new position. Moreover, the job market has significantly toughened. Experienced and recently joined IT workers are equally affected by these job reductions. Developers (26%), QA (30%), and designers (28%) were among the most frequently laid off in the past year.
About 42% of those currently employed fear job loss, with 49% among those with less than three years of experience. Although IT professionals with over five years of experience are more confident, with 38% worrying about potential job loss, concerns are present even among experienced specialists who recently changed jobs. Among IT professionals with over five years of experience, 41% of those who joined a company less than two years ago fear job loss, compared to 34% with longer tenures.
Testers and designers are the most anxious about potential job loss (52% of those currently employed), while Data Science professionals are the most optimistic, with only 30% expressing concern. IT professionals in Kyiv and those currently abroad show a slightly higher confidence level in their jobs, with about 40% fearing job loss, whereas in Dnipro and Kharkiv, almost half express concerns.
