67% of Poles support deportation of unemployed Ukrainian men of military age

Two-thirds of Poland’s residents support a proposal by the opposition party Law and Justice to expel from the country Ukrainian men of military age who do not have legal employment.

These are the results of an IBRiS poll conducted for the newspaper Rzeczpospolita.

According to the poll data, 67.2% of respondents support the deportation idea, while 23.4% are opposed. The survey was conducted on August 7–8, 2026, among more than a thousand people — immediately after the Law and Justice party published its proposal.

Support for the initiative grows noticeably with age. Among the youngest respondents (aged 18–29), 43% approve of it, while in the fifty-year-old age group the figure is 80%. Religious people support the Law and Justice proposal more often than non-believers.

The Law and Justice party presented a new migration policy concept, one of the key points of which is the deportation of Ukrainian men of military age — from 25 to 60 years old — if they do not have legal employment in Poland.

The spokeswoman for Poland’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration, Karolina Galecka, assessed the initiative differently.

“The intentions of the Law and Justice party to deport Ukrainians of military age are populism,” Galecka said.

According to her, 95% of men from Ukraine are legally employed in Poland.

On July 30, the EU Council approved, through a written procedure, an extension of the temporary protection regime for Ukrainians in European Union countries. Under the new rules, newly arrived Ukrainian citizens subject to military service will be able to claim this status only if they have no issues with their military registration documents.
