Republicans will not make concessions to Biden on Ukraine first

Mike Johnson, the Speaker of the House of Representatives in the United States, has declared his reluctance to engage in discussions with Biden regarding financial assistance to Ukraine until the matter of the southern border is effectively addressed.

“We need to know that Ukraine will not become the next Afghanistan. And many Americans have a question about why this is happening without proper answers. But before we even start talking about Ukraine, I will say to the president – border, border, border. We must address our own problems before we do anything else,” said Johnson.

It is noteworthy that Joe Biden has invited congressional leaders to the White House for a meeting today to discuss negotiations on a bill that includes provisions for aiding Ukraine. Johnson’s emphasis on the “border” indicates a concern related to the challenge of illegal migration, where hundreds of thousands of Latin American residents are fleeing their economically challenged nations to the United States, resulting in a significant migration crisis.
