‘Stockpiles are running out’: The White House stated that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are running out of ammunition and air defense due to the lack of assistance from the US
08.02.2024 - 14:01Ukraine should not expect significant progress on NATO membership at the upcoming summit in Washington this summer.
This was stated to Politico by the UK’s Ambassador to the Alliance, David Quarrey.
“I don’t expect significant progress on this issue, mainly because of the likely situation on the ground,” said the diplomat.
Presumably, by “situation on the ground,” ongoing war and occupation of parts of Ukrainian territory are meant.
However, the UK is “absolutely convinced that Ukraine’s rightful place is in NATO,” assured Quarrey.
“It’s a question of when, not if. And our work here is to continue supporting Ukraine as it moves closer to the alliance,” the diplomat said.
Earlier, the media reported that the United States and Germany are the main opponents of inviting Ukraine to NATO, although countries in Eastern Europe and the UK insist on it. They believe that Ukraine should not be admitted to NATO while the war is ongoing, so as not to provoke a conflict between the Alliance and Russia over the occupied Ukrainian territories. Although they generally support membership in the long term.
