05.04.2024 - 22:13Lawyer of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Robert Amsterdam stated that he has compiled a report of over 250 pages containing evidence of attacks on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, its temples, and its clergy.
He made this statement in a video address.
The lawyer once again urged the authorities of Ukraine to refrain from further consideration of bill No. 8371, aimed at banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
“This bill is nothing but a manifestation of hate speech. Attacks on believers during wartime, expulsion from churches, denial of access to places of worship for citizens are absolutely unacceptable. I call on the government to stop considering this bill and to stop dividing the population, pitting brother against brother,” Amsterdam said.
The lawyer also stated that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is not affiliated with the Moscow Patriarchate.
“The Ukrainian Orthodox Church does not support the ideology of the ‘Russian world’ and distances itself from it. Moreover, the church’s position regarding the ideas of the ‘Russian world’ has long been publicly stated by His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy of Kyiv: ‘We are not building any ‘Russian world.’ We are building God’s world. At the same time, like every local church operating within the boundaries of its state, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is fully committed to Ukraine, which the church has called to defend from the first day of the full-scale Russian invasion,” he quoted the statement of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
Furthermore, today Robert Amsterdam called for support for Ukraine from the United States.
“From myself personally: support for Ukraine is critically important for America, not just for Ukraine. How can we abandon people, having misled them at every step? Who will believe the United States after Kabul and now Kyiv?” Amsterdam wrote on his social media account.
