‘No reason to fight in Donetsk region’: in Cherkasy region, a man deemed unfit due to health reasons received a sentence for evading mobilization

In Cherkasy region, a man has been sentenced to three years of imprisonment for evading mobilization. During the trial, he stated that he saw no point in fighting in Donetsk region.

This is reported by the publication “Glavkom” with reference to data from the court registry.

In March 2023, he underwent a medical examination, which deemed him fit for service. However, he refused to accept a “combat” draft into the army and did not appear on the specified date.

During the trial, the man said that he considered himself unfit due to health reasons – he has been suffering from mesotympanitis (a chronic inflammatory process in the middle ear) since he was 28 years old, and he provided corresponding medical records to support this, which was confirmed by the initial conclusion of the military medical commission.

However, a month later, the medical commission declared him fit. Doctors stated that the disease had stopped progressing after treatment and the man became fit for service.

During the trial, he questioned the legality of the functioning of territorial recruitment centers, stating that there is no information about these institutions in the unified registry. He referred to military service under contract as “slavery” and questioned the fairness of mobilization. He added that he had “nothing to fight for in Donetsk region.”

The court sentenced him to prison.
