19.04.2024 - 10:27Russia has increased its weapons production and will be able to support its offensive in Ukraine for at least another two years.
This was reported by The Washington Post, citing analysts’ opinions.
Primarily, Moscow has upgraded its armed forces by repairing old Soviet equipment. Russia prioritizes quantity over quality. Spare parts, supplied from China, North Korea and Iran, vary in quality but allow circumvention of sanctions.
Nevertheless, stocks of Soviet equipment are limited, and the key issue will be the ability to transition to the production of new combat vehicles when old models are exhausted for modernization. In the fall, the Russian military leadership ordered the resumption of production at the Omsk Transport Engineering Plant, where T-80 tanks are assembled. However, experts claim that serial production has not been successfully launched.
It is also unlikely that Russia will be able to arm its army with more modern equipment, such as the T-14 “Armata” tank. “Rostec” stated that deployment in Ukraine was abandoned due to its high cost. Analysts believe it is simpler to purchase the T-90.
For drone production, Russia procures Western components through Turkey, China and Kazakhstan, and raw materials through the ports of Estonia and Latvia, as well as from Germany, Taiwan and China.
