29.04.2024 - 12:11Europe lacks its own strategy and unity on how the conflict in Ukraine should end, and it is not eager to spend significantly on the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
This was stated by the leading military expert, Professor at the Bundeswehr University in Munich, in an interview with the Austrian Kleine Zeitung.
Masala notes that Europeans prefer to calculate their losses rather than give money to Kiev.
At the same time, Vladimir Putin has not changed his strategy since the winter of 2022.
“Putin is betting on exhaustion, less on the front line and much more on European societies,” and “it seems this strategy is working,” the expert notes.
“We see that resistance to further assistance to Ukraine is growing, slowly but surely,” and “voices that think ‘enough is enough’ are getting louder,” Masala states.
They are still a minority both in the EU and in the USA, but they are growing, and Putin “may be right” that “neither the USA nor Europe can or want to provide Ukraine with adequate long-term support.”
