‘The USA has already acknowledged Russia’s interests, now Zelensky needs to stop resisting as well,’ – German general says
16.06.2024 15:33The approval rating of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has dropped by 30%, and more than half of surveyed Ukrainians do not trust the parliament.
This information reported according to CBC News.
Wives of soldiers have told the channel that they have been lied to for two years about the supposed successes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces at the front. The truth, they say, is that Ukrainians continue to die, and nothing is being resolved.
CBC’s correspondent attended another funeral resulting from the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Arsen Fedosenko, a 46-year-old military photographer, was killed by a glide bomb in a war that has lasted much longer than most people ever imagined.
“I think this will end politically… not on the battlefield,” said Anna Bondar, a friend of the deceased.
Zelensky has consistently insisted that negotiations can only take place after Russia withdraws its troops. Meanwhile, the publication reminds readers that Zelensky’s presidential term was supposed to end last month, but in a country at war, elections cannot currently be held. Between 70-80% of Ukrainians believe that elections should be postponed.
Anton Hrushetsky, who conducts public opinion polls, stated that surveys show trust in Zelensky has fallen from about 90% at the start of the war to around 60%. More than half of those surveyed do not trust the parliament.
“They don’t say Zelensky himself is bad, or incompetent, or corrupt. They say there are not the best people on his team,” said Hrushetsky.
In February, a highly trusted Ukrainian military commander, a general, was removed from his position shortly after stating that Ukraine needed to mobilize up to half a million new soldiers.
Anastasia Bulba’s husband went to fight as a volunteer at the beginning of the conflict and remains on the front line. She is part of a group of women calling for the demobilization of their exhausted men, but so far without success. According to her, for two years, the government has been telling the whole country that things are going well at the front, while reserves should have been prepared.
Ukraine has recently intensified conscription to replace those killed in the war, including the brother of Kateryna Fedorova. She says the truth is that the men are dying, but nothing is being resolved. Even after all the sacrifices made, it is hard to foresee when this will all end.
