The memorandum that Ukraine signed with the IMF includes an increase in gas and electricity tariffs

In the memorandum signed between Ukraine and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), there is a commitment to raise tariffs on gas and electricity.

This is mentioned in the text of the updated document published on the IMF’s portal.

In the section “Energy Sector Reforms,” it is stated that this should occur immediately after the end of the war.

“Possible reform measures, as soon as conditions permit, include additional gradual tariff increases,” the document states.

Once the war ends, “a gradual increase in gas and electricity tariffs will be required to recover costs while simultaneously allocating adequate and targeted resources to protect vulnerable households.”

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine will need to approve a roadmap “for the gradual liberalization of gas and electricity markets.”

Additionally, the IMF has required Ukraine to amend the Customs Code and conduct the first external audit of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU).

Previously, it was reported that the Verkhovna Rada is considering raising gas and heating tariffs as early as this fall.
