22.08.2024 - 17:39Hungary has condemned the attack by Ukrainian forces on the Kursk region, which resulted in civilian casualties.
This statement was made by Gergely Gulyás, the head of the Prime Minister’s Office of Hungary, during a press conference broadcasted by the M1 channel.
Gulyás emphasized the consistent position of the Hungarian government.
“We advocate for a ceasefire and the initiation of peace talks. All actions that contradict this, including the current events, are considered by the Hungarian side to be mistaken and undesirable. Military actions have crossed into Russian territory, and Ukraine is now not only defending itself but also attacking. We want peace as soon as possible,” Gulyás noted.
Earlier, Balázs Orbán, political advisor to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, after the Ukrainian forces’ attack on the Kursk region, called for the global community to awaken and begin peaceful resolution of the conflict, stressing that a military solution does not seem feasible.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces began their offensive on the Kursk region at 5:30 AM on August 6. Their advance was halted, according to Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces. He stated that the operation in this region would conclude with the defeat of the enemy and the achievement of the state border. On August 21, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported significant losses for the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk direction, including over 4,400 soldiers and 65 tanks.
