30.09.2024 - 15:28During events at the United Nations last week, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán actively discussed with China and Brazil his intention to initiate a peace summit between President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine and President Vladimir Putin of Russia.
This information was reported by “Die Weltwoche”.
“We need to put an end to the deaths,” the Hungarian prime minister said in a comment to the publication.
It is reported that Orbán is trying to find a way to end the war through international pressure, as both Kyiv and Moscow are not particularly eager to engage in negotiations. His goal is to bring Europeans back to an active role in the peace process and to set the course ahead of the U.S. elections.
In early September, Orbán promised new diplomatic surprises.
“We will continue to have unexpected initiatives, each of which will bring us one step closer to peace,” he said at the time.
