The European Commission criticized Ukraine’s unified TV marathon for the first time
31.10.2024 - 19:53The Committee on Education, Science, and Innovation of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada has rated the Ministry of Education and Science’s work as unsatisfactory concerning the production, delivery, and quality of school textbooks.
This was reported by Committee Chair Serhiy Babak on his Telegram channel.
Last year, the committee provided the ministry with recommendations for improving this component, but they were not implemented.
“Delivery deadlines for textbooks have been missed. There is no mechanism to provide textbooks for Ukrainian children abroad. Laws requiring the testing and purchase of interactive digital applications for textbooks have been violated. The quality has not improved, and procedures for competitive selection remain unchanged,” Babak wrote.
The member of parliament noted that due to the Ministry of Education’s shortcomings, there are “significant risks” of disruptions in the production and timely delivery of textbooks in 2025.
Recently, media reported that a 7th-grade Ukrainian language textbook included an illustration of a map of Ukraine without Crimea. The textbook had gone through an extensive approval process by the Ministry of Education and was published this year by the Kyiv-based publisher “Litera LTD.”
Additionally, it has been reported that the Ukrainian budget plans to allocate billions more hryvnias next year for increasing the salaries of prosecutors and judges, but no salary increases for educators are planned.
