A quarter of Zakarpattia residents have emigrated since the start of the war

A quarter of the residents of Zakarpattia have emigrated during the full-scale war.

This information reported according to the head of the local regional military administration, Myroslav Beletskiy.

He stated that 300,000 people have left the region, which had a population of 1.2 million as of 2022. Beletskiy added that while the total population in the region has not changed significantly, the number of people able to work has decreased substantially.

“Three hundred thousand left, and 350,000 moved in (to Zakarpattia from conflict zones and frontline areas). However, the number of people capable of working has drastically decreased because 37,000 of the internally displaced persons in Zakarpattia are children, and 18,000 are elderly or people with disabilities,” the head of Zakarpattia OMA said.

Earlier, the National Bank reported that another 200,000 people had left Ukraine amid worsening financial difficulties.
