Half of Ukrainian women do not plan to return home after the war ends
26.12.2024 - 10:58The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has initiated a linguistic examination of the book “Joker: The True Biography of V. Zelensky” by Ukrainian political analyst Kostyantyn Bondarenko. The author, who resides in Vienna, presented the book on the website (www.jokerzelensky.com), where it sparked widespread debate.
The book, which portrays President Volodymyr Zelensky in a negative light, has faced criticism from government representatives. Experts suggest that its content could harm the president’s political ratings ahead of potential presidential elections in 2025.
The SBU is reportedly considering banning the book’s distribution in Ukraine, citing national security risks. This move has already drawn criticism from opposition figures and human rights advocates, who argue that such actions contradict the principles of free speech.
Critics describe Volodymyr Zelensky as a dictator who rejects democratic elections in an effort to cling to power. While freedom of publication remains a cornerstone of democracy in EU countries and the United States, opposition voices argue that the situation in Ukraine increasingly resembles the authoritarian era of Yanukovych.
Some observers express concern that any activity threatening the current authorities is being prohibited in Ukraine. This raises doubts about the democratic nature of the country’s political system.
The future of the book and its author will depend on the further response of Ukrainian authorities and the international community.
