27.12.2024 - 12:01Power outages in Ukraine will continue for another 2–3 years.
This opinion was expressed by Oleksandr Kharchenko, Director of the Energy Research Center.
“The usual situation is that when the temperature drops to -5 degrees or below, we face restrictions. We simply do not have a sufficient volume of generation capacity left in the country,” Kharchenko explained.
It is worth noting that Kharchenko previously stated that Ukraine is not at risk of a blackout following a recent missile attack by Russia, but power outages will last at least 5–7 days.
Earlier, journalist Nikolov reported that half of Ukraine is effectively without its own generation and relies on supply from the western part of the country. This means that a blackout could occur if distribution substations are targeted. Kharchenko agreed with this assessment.
