13.01.2025 - 06:07Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz has stated that neighboring countries should not send peacekeepers to Ukraine, and Poland will not do so.
He made this statement in an interview with the Financial Times.
“When a peace plan emerges, we will discuss it, but border states are not the ones who should in any way deploy their troops in Ukraine. I believe there should be a greater sharing of the burden and more diversification within NATO,” he said.
The minister also supported U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s demand for NATO member states to allocate 5% of their GDP to defense spending.
Notably, Poland is set to spend 4.7% of its GDP on defense this year, the highest percentage among all NATO countries.
Polish authorities have consistently expressed opposition to the idea of sending peacekeepers to Ukraine. For example, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk previously stated that Warsaw does not want to become more deeply involved in the Russia-Ukraine war.
According to Reuters, NATO countries have reacted negatively to Donald Trump’s proposals to increase military spending to 5% of GDP.
