Pete Hegseth, nominated by Donald Trump for the position of U.S. Secretary of Defense, pledged that the Pentagon would play a key role in nationwide efforts to support a special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, should his nomination be confirmed.
Hegseth made this commitment during his testimony before the Senate Armed Services Committee as part of the hearings to review his candidacy.
“If confirmed, I will ensure that the Department of Defense plays a key role in the whole-of-government effort to support the special envoy for Ukraine and Russia,” Hegseth said in response to a question about whether he considers it important for the U.S. to continue providing security assistance to Ukraine, including after the conflict ends.
It is worth noting that Donald Trump, following his election as U.S. President, nominated Fox News host and former military officer Pete Hegseth to lead the Pentagon.
