04.02.2025 - 11:27Ukraine has offered US President Donald Trump “special conditions” for cooperation on its key natural resources.
This was reported by Financial Times, citing a source.
“Of course, we are ready to work with America,” the source said.
At the same time, Kyiv emphasized the need to protect these resources from Russia and Iran.
The day before, Trump mentioned discussing guarantees with Ukraine for the US regarding its rare earth metals. The US president wants Kyiv to “compensate” Washington for “nearly $300 billion” in support provided.
Earlier, Trump stated that Biden did not ask Europe for money for Ukraine and simply distributed US funds.
Meanwhile, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz criticized Trump’s desire to obtain Ukraine’s rare earth metals. He accused the US president of “selfishness.” Scholz believes that “it would be very selfish and egocentric” to use the funds received now to finance support for Ukraine’s defense.
It is worth recalling that, as reported by Western outlets, Zelensky postponed signing an agreement with the US on mineral extraction until Trump’s inauguration.
