04.02.2025 - 12:44Ukraine proposed to Russia to maintain the transit of Russian gas through its territory in exchange for transferring control of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) to Kyiv and ceasing attacks on energy infrastructure, but Moscow refused.
This was reported on Facebook by Volodymyr Omelchenko, Director of Energy Programs at the Razumkov Center, citing former Moldovan Prime Minister Ion Sturza.
“According to former Moldovan Prime Minister Ion Sturza, the Ukrainian government conducted negotiations to maintain the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine in exchange for the return of ZNPP and an end to attacks on energy infrastructure, but Russia rejected this option,” Omelchenko wrote.
He also added that starting from February 11, gas transit to Transnistria via Ukraine and the Isaccea-Orlovka route may begin. The gas, up to 5 million cubic meters per day, is expected to be supplied by the Hungarian trader MIT International AG. According to Omelchenko, the gas is planned to be delivered to the Moldavskaya GRES (power plant).
