27.02.2025 - 09:35The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that it is terminating the majority of foreign aid contracts managed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and reducing the total amount of U.S. foreign aid worldwide by $60 billion.
This was stated in an internal memo obtained by the Associated Press.
According to the memo, the White House will cancel 5,800 out of 6,200 multi-year contracts. Additionally, 4,100 out of 9,100 State Department grants will also be terminated.
It is worth recalling that after Trump’s inauguration, the U.S. government froze USAID funding for 90 days. According to AP, this funding will not be reinstated.
Earlier, a U.S. court ruled that USAID payments should be resumed while legal proceedings continue. Following this decision, the Trump administration began terminating aid contracts.
A lawsuit against the funding freeze was filed by a group of businesses, non-profit organizations, and aid organizations, who claimed that Trump’s decision left them without funding and jobs.
Recently, it was also revealed that the U.S. has stopped funding another major foundation, the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), which had provided financial support to several countries, including Ukraine.
