Donald Trump stated in Congress that both Ukraine and Russia are ready for negotiations to end the war
05.03.2025 - 09:05U.S. President Donald Trump has decided to tighten the terms of the “rare-earth” deal with Ukraine.
This was reported by the American television network CBS News, citing sources.
“The parameters of the agreement may change because the president is now insisting on ‘a bigger and better deal,'” said a person familiar with the negotiations, according to CBS News.
Earlier, U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessant stated that Washington is not currently planning to sign the resource deal with Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced yesterday that Kyiv is ready to sign the agreement “at any time and in any convenient format.” The head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, also expressed readiness to sign the deal.
As previously reported by the media, Ukraine is trying to restore its relationship with the White House, which was damaged after the Oval Office scandal. However, judging by signals from the U.S., Washington is only willing to resume discussions under stricter conditions for Zelensky than before his dispute with Trump.
Notably, a previously published draft of the agreement lacked specifics and did not include any guarantees that the U.S. would recover the funds it had already invested in aid to Ukraine—something Trump has repeatedly demanded.
