06.03.2025 13:03U.S. President Donald Trump plans to strip 240,000 Ukrainians who fled due to the war of their refugee status in April.
Reuters reports, citing sources.
This move could potentially lead to their expedited deportation.
According to the publication, this decision is part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to revoke legal status from more than 1.8 million migrants from various countries. However, it is not related to the conflict with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“This step, expected as early as April, will be the complete opposite of the reception Ukrainians received under President Joe Biden’s administration,” the publication states.
Tricia McLaughlin, a representative of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, said that the agency currently has no statements on the matter. The White House and the Ukrainian Embassy have not responded to requests for comment.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian government has allocated 150 million hryvnias to support and facilitate the return of refugees from abroad.
At the same time, in Germany, out of the one million Ukrainian refugees currently residing there, more than half are considering staying in the host country permanently.
