Territorial concessions, NATO rejection, and military reduction: The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry outlined Ukraine’s red lines in negotiations
17.03.2025 12:46NATO should reject Ukraine’s membership as part of a peace agreement on Ukraine.
This information reported according to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko.
He stated that security guarantees for Russia must “exclude Ukraine’s NATO membership and the possibility of deploying foreign military contingents on its territory or using it for military pressure on Russia.”
“A neutral status for Ukraine and NATO countries’ refusal to accept it into the Alliance should be part of these guarantees,” Grushko said.
He also opposed the presence of European peacekeepers in Ukraine.
“We absolutely do not care under what label NATO contingents might be deployed in Ukraine—whether under the EU, NATO, or as national forces. In any case, if they appear there, it means they are in a conflict zone, with all the consequences that come with being a party to the conflict,” Grushko added.
At the same time, he stated that Moscow is open to negotiations with the European Union on these issues, but the EU has “isolated itself from Russia.”
Recently, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that U.S. President Donald Trump has removed Ukraine’s NATO membership from the agenda.
Meanwhile, U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz confirmed that Trump’s administration is considering Putin’s conditions for a ceasefire in Ukraine. He added that the United States will provide a response in the coming days.
