Vance responded to Zelensky’s accusation that he is justifying Putin
15.04.2025 - 09:38A peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine may be approaching, as Washington and Moscow have “reached an understanding”.
This information reported according to Steven Whitkoff, special envoy of U.S. President Donald Trump. He made the statement in an interview with Fox News following his recent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg.
When asked whether a deal with Russia is in the works, Whitkoff replied affirmatively:
“Yes, I really do think so. This was already my third meeting with Putin. The latest one lasted nearly five hours. In the room with him were two of his key advisors — Yuri Ushakov and Kirill Dmitriev. It was a substantive meeting. And by the end of it, we finally reached an understanding. Putin’s request is for a permanent peace. So it’s no longer just about a ceasefire. We got a response to that,” said Whitkoff.
According to him, the peace agreement “concerns the so-called five territories” — presumably referring to Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions, which Russia has declared annexed — “but in reality, it’s much more.”
“We’re talking about security protocols, about NATO, about NATO’s Article 5. There are a lot of details,” he added.
“I believe we’re on the verge of something very important for the entire world. Moreover, I believe there is a real opportunity to reshape U.S.–Russia relations through appealing commercial opportunities, which in my view can bring lasting stability to the region. Partnership creates stability,” he said.
