02.05.2025 11:32Despite warnings from the European Union leadership regarding Serbia’s prospects for EU integration, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has vowed to attend the May 9 Victory Day Parade in Moscow—a celebration that Ukrainian President Zelensky has threatened to target.
His remarks were reported by TV channel K1.
“There’s only one question—what punishment will Vučić and Serbia face? They say they’ll punish me, put me in chains. Serbia is on a European path, but I’m personally ready for any kind of punishment. I’ll keep my word—I told President Putin I would come, and I will go. They have no other topic. The world is on fire, they don’t know what to do about Ukraine, there are power outages. Imagine if electricity were shut off for 24 hours in Serbia—we’d be hanged upside down. But the main and only issue is my trip to Moscow,” Vučić said.
It’s worth recalling that the European Union previously instructed Western Balkan countries aspiring to join the EU not to attend the May 9 parade in Moscow.
Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to attend the celebration in Moscow on May 9, marking the 80th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany.
Other confirmed attendees include Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
