The West has no defense against fiber-optic drones used in the war in Ukraine – The Independent

Western countries have no defense against fiber-optic-controlled drones, which are being actively used in the war in Ukraine.

This is according to drone experts whose opinions were published by the British outlet The Independent.

Such drones, remotely operated via fiber-optic cables, could become weapons for targeting people at large public events or for destroying critical infrastructure, the article states.

“Concerts, rallies, conferences, and all other events are currently at risk of coordinated attacks by such drones,” the article says, citing Mike Fryetta, an experienced U.S. drone operator.

The American radar company Echodyne reports that most critical infrastructure sites, law enforcement agencies, and government institutions in Western countries are “poorly equipped to detect drones, let alone defend against them.”

As a reminder, during the war in Ukraine, the Russian military has deployed fiber-optic drones with a range of over 10 kilometers.

Meanwhile, a Ukrainian soldier reported that the enemy’s drones using fiber-optic control now have flight ranges exceeding 30 kilometers.
