U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio published a congratulatory message for Russia Day.
“On behalf of the American people, I want to congratulate the Russian people. The United States remains committed to supporting the Russian people in their pursuit of a brighter future,” the statement reads, as quoted by the U.S. State Department website.
Rubio also expressed readiness for “constructive engagement with the Russian Federation to achieve lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine.”
“We hope that peace will contribute to the strengthening of mutually beneficial relations between our countries,” Rubio added.
As a reminder, Russia and the United States recently agreed to move direct negotiations from Istanbul to their respective capitals.
Earlier, the Kremlin stated that in these talks, the U.S. had expressed many positions that align with Moscow’s stance.
