NATO Secretary General tried to scare the British by switching to Russian
24.06.2025 - 11:26The promise of future NATO membership for Ukraine and Georgia was not included in the draft final communiqué of the alliance’s summit in The Hague.
The New York Times reports, citing sources.
“It does not mention NATO’s earlier pledge of possible membership for Ukraine and Georgia, as had been the case in previous summit communiqués,” the report states.
According to the publication, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte explained the omission by saying that “past commitments are considered fulfilled and do not need to be repeated.”
Earlier reports suggested that Ukraine’s allies at the NATO summit may leave President Volodymyr Zelensky without military assistance — not only from the United States but also from supporting European Union countries.
“Zelensky is unlikely to leave the summit with new aid commitments or badly needed weapons such as air defense systems,” the article notes.
