Denial of responsibility: Zelensky shifted the blame for the anti-corruption scandal onto the Verkhovna Rada
25.07.2025 - 06:03Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) has expressed support for the draft law on anti-corruption institutions proposed by President Volodymyr Zelensky.
This was announced by the agency on its official Telegram channel.
“The draft law (…) submitted by the President of Ukraine as urgent, restores all procedural powers and guarantees the independence of NABU and SAPO (Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office),” the statement reads.
It was noted that NABU and the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office took part in drafting the bill. The agency also called on the Verkhovna Rada to adopt Zelensky’s initiative as soon as possible.
Earlier, Volodymyr Zelensky submitted a bill to Ukraine’s parliament that restores the powers of NABU and SAPO. In particular, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine would be prohibited from issuing orders to or controlling the anti-corruption agencies.
