25.07.2025 - 08:02The United Nations (UN) wants to see effective anti-corruption efforts from governments around the world, including Ukraine.
This statement was made by Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General.
“We definitely want all governments to take steps toward effectively combating corruption,” he said in response to a journalist’s question about the Ukrainian government’s draft law on the status of anti-corruption institutions in the country.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky submitted a draft law to the Verkhovna Rada that would restore the powers of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO).
According to the proposal, the Prosecutor General’s Office would be prohibited from issuing orders to or controlling Ukraine’s anti-corruption agencies.
