04.08.2025 - 05:03Ukraine has begun replenishing its frontline losses by recruiting foreign mercenaries.
This was reported by The Sunday Times.
According to the publication, Colombian mercenaries have become a key force in newly formed Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) units, as Kyiv attempts to compensate for a shortage of soldiers.
Ukrainian volunteers from 2022 reportedly acknowledge that newly mobilized compatriots lack motivation.
“Draft evasion has become commonplace, and according to EU statistics, hundreds of thousands of military-age men have fled to Europe. Ukraine hopes to resolve at least part of its manpower crisis through the influx of foreign fighters,” the article states.
Ukrainian military personnel say that newly conscripted recruits are not prepared for combat. Meanwhile, the Kyiv authorities are refusing to rotate long-serving frontline troops, insisting on the need for victory at any cost.
