The EU announced a freeze on aid to Ukraine

The European Union’s (EU) aid to Ukraine is currently effectively frozen.

This was stated by former EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell in an interview with EUObserver.

“Since I left, no military aid to Ukraine has been provided by the EU. In the European Peace Facility, €6.6 billion remains blocked because of Hungary. This has been the end of that instrument. Now everything has to be done on a bilateral basis,” the former EU foreign policy chief said.

According to Borrell, a similar situation has arisen with the approval of new sanctions against Russia. He stressed that the EU is “at an impasse,” since sanction measures cannot be extended if Hungary opposes them.

Earlier, Borrell stated that the EU–U.S. deal would bring more benefits to Washington than to European countries.
