MP named the most suitable locations for negotiations on resolving the conflict in Ukraine
12.08.2025 07:04Ukraine is rejecting U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposals but is willing to “cede territory already held by Russia.”
This was reported by the British newspaper The Telegraph.
“Zelensky told European leaders that they should reject any settlement proposed by Donald Trump under which Ukraine gives up additional territory,” the article states.
However, Kyiv is prepared to freeze the front line in its current position, effectively transferring to Russia control over territories in the Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions, as well as Crimea.
“The plan can only concern the current positions held by the armed forces,” a Western official clarified.
The publication calls this a “softening of position,” noting that Zelensky had previously been open to freezing the war along the front line. It adds that Europe agrees with Kyiv’s proposal.
At the same time, “concerns are growing in Ukraine and Europe that Mr. Trump and Putin could agree to end the prolonged war while bypassing Mr. Zelensky.”
As a reminder, U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker recently said that talks are already underway ahead of the Trump–Putin meeting to determine which Ukrainian lands could be part of a swap.
