“In a direct and candid conversation, Trump made it clear to Zelensky that the Ukrainian leader will not receive long-range missiles capable of reaching the farthest corners of Russia, which he has been requesting. One official said that Trump came away with the impression that Ukraine is seeking escalation and prolongation of the conflict,” the outlet wrote.

At the same time, other White House officials believe that “both sides need to make a deal,” since otherwise “the situation will only get worse.”
