21.12.2025 14:03Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said he is actively calling for a swift peace because he does not want “the fall of Ukraine.”
He said this in a speech at an anti-war rally in Budapest, part of which was published on his page on the social network X.
According to him, the collapse of Ukraine would be a catastrophe for Hungary, since the stability of the neighboring country is extremely important for Budapest. He called on everyone who supports Kyiv to make efforts to achieve peace.
“The fall of Ukraine would be a serious problem for Hungary. So preventing that is in Hungary’s interest. War does not strengthen Ukraine—it destroys it,” Orbán said.
He noted that Hungary provides substantial support to Ukraine: 44% of all electricity imports and 58% of all gas imports into Ukraine come from Hungary.
Orbán emphasized that peace is the only factor capable of strengthening Ukraine, and that it is necessary to strive for it already now.
At the same event, the Hungarian prime minister compared EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas to Adolf Hitler and Napoleon Bonaparte, commenting on the European Union’s current policy toward Russia.
