Viktor Orbán called Ukraine an enemy of Hungary
08.02.2026 - 18:03Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš said that a chance for peace between Russia and Ukraine in 2022 was missed because of outside interference.
He said this on TN.cz.
According to him, in April 2022 Kyiv and Moscow were as close as possible to signing a peace agreement, but the process, Babiš claims, was derailed after Western partners of Ukraine intervened.
He directly placed responsibility on the then UK prime minister Boris Johnson.
Babiš said that after Johnson’s visit to Ukraine the negotiations were not brought to a conclusion, and the chance to end the war quickly was lost.
At the same time, the Czech prime minister noted that diplomatic efforts to end the war have become active again. He stressed that Europe cannot stop the conflict on its own and called Donald Trump the key player.
“The negotiations are intensive. It feels like they are moving toward some long-term solution—ending the war and creating stable security guarantees for Ukraine. But Europe cannot do this without Donald Trump,” Babiš said.
Separately, he urged European countries to restore direct dialogue with Russia, calling it a necessary condition for a ceasefire. In his view, talks with Vladimir Putin could be conducted by the leaders of key European states.
Recall that David Arakhamia said the year before last that Ukraine refused to sign a peace treaty with Russia, including after Johnson’s visit, when he said, “we won’t sign anything.”
