Ukraine will seek help from foreign intelligence services during the elections, The Times reports
12.02.2026 05:31The European Union should build a “strategic partnership” with Ukraine rather than admit it as a member of the bloc.
This was written by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on his page on X.
“Admitting Ukraine to the EU would plunge Europe into war. We are not against cooperation. But EU membership is the wrong path. A strategic partnership, not membership, is the responsible choice,” Orbán wrote.
Also on February 11, Orbán said that the European Union’s plan to partially admit Ukraine into the EU in 2027 by bypassing Hungary’s veto amounts to a declaration of war on Budapest. According to him, Brussels wants the “Tisza” party to come to power in Hungary so that it can lift the veto on Ukraine joining the bloc.
On February 10, Politico wrote that EU countries had developed five steps for bringing Ukraine into the EU in 2027, including bypassing Hungary’s veto.
In January, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Kyiv is technically ready to open all clusters in the accession talks in 2026, and that in 2027 Ukraine would be ready to fully join the union.
