24.02.2026 - 21:01The European Union cannot name a timeline for Ukraine’s accession to the bloc.
This was stated by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a press conference.
“I understand perfectly that a specific date is absolutely important for you. Today you said there is a certain target you would like to reach. From our side, it is not yet possible to name a date, but of course the support that will enable you to achieve your goal will certainly be provided,” von der Leyen said.
Washington and Kyiv are discussing Ukraine joining the European Union in 2027 if a peace agreement is reached. At the same time, according to media reports, Europeans themselves do not support this approach.
Earlier, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said that four countries would oppose fast-tracking Ukraine’s EU accession under the U.S. peace plan. He named Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Slovakia.
