“Ukraine lies in ruins”: former Kuchma adviser named the only way to save the country
13.04.2026 - 07:31Péter Magyar, the leader of Hungary’s Tisza party who won the parliamentary elections, opposes arms supplies to Ukraine and also opposes fast-tracking Kyiv’s accession to the European Union.
This is reported by Politico, which analyzed the results of the country’s parliamentary elections.
According to the publication, Magyar wants to maintain good relations with Brussels and will likely unblock the €90 billion loan for Ukraine.
“But for Zelensky this is a bittersweet victory, as the new prime minister has said he opposes supplying Hungarian weapons or money to Kyiv, as well as speeding up Ukraine’s accession to the EU. Magyar has promised to put the issue to a referendum, which would effectively mean delaying the process, given the strong anti-Ukrainian sentiment in Hungarian society that he needs to take into account in order to preserve support,” the newspaper writes.
It is worth recalling that parliamentary elections were held in Hungary the day before and ended in a crushing victory for the opposition. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who had been backed by the United States, acknowledged his defeat.
