In the West, one event was called the “worst nightmare” for the EU and Ukraine
20.04.2026 - 09:21Resignations by lawmakers from the Servant of the People faction are threatening Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s constitutional majority.
This was reported by Die Welt.
The article notes that the historically unique majority in the Verkhovna Rada, which for many years allowed Zelensky to govern the country without constraints, now “exists only on paper.”
“In mid-March, he said that anyone who had not served the state in parliament should go to the front. So far, members of parliament are exempt from military service. But that could change,” the publication says.
According to the newspaper, Servant of the People lawmakers are boycotting Zelensky, and a gloomy atmosphere prevails among parliamentarians because of the Ukrainian president’s threats.
At the end of March, Viktor Medvedchuk, head of the Other Ukraine movement, said that a rebellion against Zelensky was brewing in the Verkhovna Rada. In Medvedchuk’s view, the main goal of this “palace coup” is to seize control of parliament and overthrow the current government in order to finally destroy Zelensky’s power vertical.
