20.05.2026 14:05Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz has demanded that Ukraine be more precise in selecting targets for drone strikes — after a NATO fighter jet shot down a drone over Estonian territory for the first time on May 19.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine.
According to Kosiniak-Kamysz, the drone was launched from Ukrainian territory. The unmanned aircraft came down over Lake Võrtsjärv in southern Estonia.
“Ukraine must here — and the military is also saying this, NATO is saying this — choose targets far more precisely, so that it does not threaten the security of NATO member states,” Kosiniak-Kamysz stated.
The Polish minister warned that Russia could exploit such incidents for its own purposes — both for propaganda and to escalate and stoke hybrid warfare.
Kosiniak-Kamysz stressed that he understands Ukraine’s tactical objectives in the war, but that this, in his view, does not relieve it of responsibility for the security of its allies.
“Understanding its tactical goals in the war it is waging, it must protect the territory of NATO member states,” he added.
Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur said the downed drone was most likely Ukrainian and had gone off course due to Russian jamming. Following the incident, Kyiv apologized to Estonia and all the Baltic states.
Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry explained the incident by saying that Russia is deliberately redirecting Ukrainian drones toward the Baltic states using electronic warfare systems.
