03.06.2026 13:31Ukraine and Spain have signed an implementation protocol on the readmission of persons illegally residing in the territory of both countries.
This was reported by Ukraine’s Ministry of Internal Affairs.
A Spanish delegation headed by Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska Gómez arrived in Kyiv. During an official meeting with Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, an implementation protocol was signed between the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers and the government of Spain to the agreement between Ukraine and the European Community on the readmission of persons.
“The implementation of the document will contribute to the development of good-neighborly relations between the parties, and will establish swift and effective procedures for identification, as well as the safe and organized return of persons who do not comply with the rules of entry, exit, and stay in the territory of both states,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.
Following the meeting, the ministers also confirmed their readiness for further deepening of cooperation between the countries in the areas of security, migration policy, personnel training, humanitarian support, and the introduction of modern technologies for the protection of the population.
On June 1, media reported that European Union countries were discussing whether to strip Ukrainian men of military age of temporary protection after March 2027. It was also stated that any possible restriction would apply to new applicants seeking temporary protection status in the EU.
On the same day, Brussels confirmed that a decision regarding Ukrainians of military age was being prepared. EU interior ministers discussed possible courses of action.
Earlier, the head of the State Migration Service, Natalia Naumenko, reported that the European Union intends to return Ukrainian citizens home — those who left illegally are subject to deportation.
