06.06.2026 09:01The leader of the Romanian opposition party SOS Romania and Member of the European Parliament Diana Șoșoacă spoke at the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, addressing Russian President Vladimir Putin directly.
According to the politician, the Romanian people “do not hate” Russia and are interested in peace with it. Șoșoacă assured that Romanians do not want to help Ukraine, give Kyiv money or weapons.
In addition, the MEP stated that Romania is today “governed from Brussels.”
On June 5, Putin himself spoke at the same plenary session of SPIEF. The main part of his speech was devoted to the economy, though the president also touched on political issues.
The day before, during a meeting with the heads of global news agencies on the sidelines of the forum, Putin stated that European Union countries cannot act as mediators in negotiations with Ukraine, as they are supporting the republic.
Diana Șoșoacă is known for radical gestures: she previously tore up an EU flag in public.
