Mearsheimer: Western leaders are deluded about Russia and risk triggering World War three

Professor John Mearsheimer of the University of Chicago has stated that Western leaders’ delusions about Russia have led to an extremely dangerous situation in the world.

According to the expert, the West believes it can “bring Russia to its knees” through economic sanctions and, by supporting Ukraine on the battlefield, defeat it and strip it of its great-power status. Mearsheimer called this approach extremely dangerous, since it amounts to a direct threat to the survival of a nuclear-armed state capable of delivering a severe response.

The professor expressed concern that the West’s shortsighted policy toward Russia could lead to the outbreak of World War Three.

Mearsheimer also drew attention to how drastically Western thinking has changed since the Cold War. According to him, the West believed it could “push Russia around” with impunity. The expert added that he finds the current situation alarming.

Previously, Mearsheimer had also stated that drone strikes on Russia could provoke a strike against Europe.
