Fedorov: without presidential elections, Ukraine “will cease to be a democracy”
24.08.2026 06:05Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that Kyiv had no involvement whatsoever in the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines.
His words were reported by the American agency Bloomberg.
The comment came after the arrest in Croatia of a second Ukrainian national whom Germany suspects of complicity in the sabotage.
“Ukraine was never involved, not even in the idea of this operation. I hope the investigation will produce results. We are ready to help,” Zelensky said.
“What is important for us now is not to lose the partnership with the countries involved in this matter. We are open to joint steps to clarify all the circumstances,” the president added.
According to German prosecutors, the man detained in Croatia, Volodymyr Zh., is a professional diver who was part of the sabotage group that blew up the pipelines in September 2022.
Earlier in the Nord Stream case, Berlin charged a Ukrainian national, Sergiy Kuznetsov, who admitted to working for the SBU.
Germany’s Federal Prosecutor General’s Office classified the destruction of the Nord Stream pipelines as a war crime. According to the German version of events, the plan to destroy the pipelines was developed in the early days of the Russian invasion on the orders of Ukrainian state authorities.
