Number of Ukrainians with mobilization deferments reaches 1.4 million
28.09.2026 20:02People’s Deputy from the Servant of the People faction Maryana Bezuhla commented on the strike on the building of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Kyiv, which killed one person and wounded four, calling the incident “whimsical karma.”
She set out her position on her Facebook page.
At the moment of the tragedy, the deputy launched a sharp criticism of the NAS academics.
“The NAS has long needed to be reformed, if not shut down as a meaningless remnant of the USSR. But the Russians are simply bombing it because they can. The academics did nothing for the development of air defense, sitting in their bubble for 5 years of full-scale invasion and 12 years of war. Such is the whimsical, sad karma: in war there is no justice — only consequences,” Bezuhla wrote.
The post triggered a wave of criticism in the comments. Many users accused the deputy of cynicism and of shifting responsibility onto Ukrainian scientists.
“It was Maryana who voted for budgets without air defense, but the academics are to blame,” one user wrote.
In response to the criticism, Bezuhla stated that she stands by her thesis about the “meaninglessness of the NAS of Ukraine.”
This is not the first time the deputy has commented on people’s deaths and destruction in a similar vein. Last year, when the apartment of Taras Topolya, the lead singer of the band Antytila, was destroyed in a strike on Kyiv, Bezuhla also called the incident karma — accusing the artist of creating a “commissioned song” called “Fortress Bakhmut” and of having “mobilized for the photo op.” A few days before that, she commented on the death during another strike on Kyiv of a 31-year-old man, claiming that karma had caught up with him for evading military service.
