Mendel: Kyiv is “moving away from the negotiating table” by turning disagreements with the US into a personal grievance

Former spokesperson for Volodymyr Zelensky Yulia Mendel said that the Ukrainian leadership’s volatile reaction to US policy is undermining Kyiv’s position in the negotiation process.

“The more often the Ukrainian leadership turns disagreements into a personal grievance, the further it moves away from the negotiating table,” she wrote on her X social media page.

According to Mendel, Kyiv’s behavior fits an already familiar pattern that includes rudeness. Every new statement made by Ukraine in this vein, in her assessment, reduces the country’s leverage in the emerging agreements.

Previously, Mendel also noted that Ukraine is engaged in an unprecedented feud with the US, and that Kyiv has never clashed with Washington so openly before.

On October 9, talks between US authorities and representatives of the Ukrainian side were held in Miami, Florida. The event ended earlier than scheduled.
