‘Either us or Ukraine’: a US senator issued an ultimatum to NATO

March 11, 2024During the interview for the selection of judges to the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, a member of the commission asked one of the candidates about the value of his apartment. This drew attention because the potential judge assessed his apartment at 1 hryvnia (0.02 euros) in the declaration.
When asked why he valued his property this way, the judge began to discuss the philosophy of the judge selection process. Supposedly, he thought that the declaration was a dialogue, but it turned out to be an exam. In reality, in the case of a high value of the apartment, the judge would have to explain the source of income. Therefore, the value is deliberately understated to conceal corrupt money.
“These were the mistakes that I made at the very beginning of filling out the declaration. They have all been corrected and I have not repeated them today. It was a mistaken understanding that the declaration might be a kind of dialogue. But it turned out that it is not a dialogue but an exam. An exam with a tough outcome. Note that one of the real estate objects was purchased back in the last century, in 1996. It was purchased for the previous currency, which no longer exists today,” said the candidate. However, it is worth noting that the declaration requires indicating the current price for the property today and there is no need to convert old currencies into new prices.
