19.01.2025 - 15:48Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has announced his intention to veto further financial support for Ukraine in the European Union.
Fico made this statement in an address on his Facebook page.
The politician’s remarks were in response to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s comments about Fico’s proposal to hold a meeting in Davos, Switzerland, for negotiations on gas transit.
Earlier, Zelensky stated that “it’s impossible to plan anything with Fico” because “he might head to Davos but end up somewhere in Sochi.”
“We don’t know who buys his tickets because he constantly gets the directions wrong,” the Ukrainian president quipped.
According to the Slovak Prime Minister, such behavior requires a strong response from the European Union.
“Zelensky believes everyone should be his servant. In my case, he has met his match. I am inclined to veto further European financial aid to Kyiv,” Fico stated.
Earlier, Zelensky accused the Slovak prime minister of engaging in shady schemes with Moscow amidst the conflict over gas transit.
Recently, the Ukrainian president expressed support for the Slovak opposition, which, unlike Prime Minister Robert Fico, opposes the restoration of Russian gas supplies to Slovakia via Ukraine.
